Sailing Policy 2025-2026 Sailing Season, announced Oct 2024
First come first serve for sign ups. Exceptions below.
For trips 1-4 days long
must be a current member
must have worked at least one event in the previous 12 months
must have at least 10 volunteer hrs since Nov 1 the previous year
must have attended the following level 1 classes after Jan 1 of the Current year
Safe Shipmate
must have attended the following level 1 classes after 2022
Emergency Response
Standing Watch
Line Handling
For trips 5+ days
must be a current member
must have min 40 volunteer hours since Nov 1 the previous year
must have worked at least one event in the previous 12 months
must have attended the following level 1 classes after Jan 1 of the Current year
Safe Shipmate
must have attended the following level 1 classes after 2022
Emergency Response

Exceptions
The following exceptions may be made:
A volunteer/member that has not had the opportunity to work an event, take the classes or get the # of hours needed.
Captain, mate positions - we would like to bring in experience from outside the guild to enhance our knowledge - with Sailing Committee approval
Engineer, bosun, watch leader and cook positions IF those positions are not filled and with Sailing Committee approval.
There hasn't been an available spot to work an event since member started
lives a significant distance away so can't easily make it to events - 100 miles
health reasons - please contact volunteer@philashipguild.org
New member or volunteer (1 month or less)
Clarifications
Work or School are not eligible exceptions.
Once we get better at doing classes we could offer 1-2 a season of some as an online option but until then distance would be a qualifier.
