Gazela at Historic Bristol Day on October 22

Gazela was the star attraction at the 41st annual Historic Bristol Day! On Friday, October 21, Gazela set sail from Philadelphia with a crew of about 20 volunteers, arriving at Bristol’s new wharf by early afternoon. That evening the crew and members of the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild Board welcomed the organizers of the event, Bristol Cultural & Historical Foundation, on board for a dinner reception, sponsored by the King George II Tavern.

Saturday morning dawned bright and clear, and the day started with a reception honoring Bristol businessman Sam Farruggio, who had sponsored the transportation of Gazela‘s current mizzen mast from Roseburg, Oregon. At 10:00am, Gazela opened the gangways for free tours, and for the next 6 hours the crew was proud to inform over 3,000 visitors about the ship and our work.

Gazela departed Bristol on Sunday, and is currently back at Penn’s Landing. The Guild and all of the volunteers want to extend a hearty thank you to Bristol for welcoming us into your community!
