At sea we are a world unto ourselves.  It is up to each of us to keep that world running smoothly and to pass our voyage safely and pleasantly.  Every member of the crew participates in this; we can’t depend on the officers alone to run the ship.  When you are on watch you are crucial to the ship and your shipmates:  you must be able to stay alert and attend to your duties.  Take care of yourself:  get rest when you are off watch, eat properly, dress for the expected weather, use sunscreen.  If you are injured, ill or troubled, go to your Watch Leader or Mate.
