Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild invites you to an educational workshop on maritime welding! L.C. Weitz will be hosting this class for free aboard our floating workshop, Barge Poplar. We welcome all!!!
Maritime welding involves specialized welding and metal fabrication for sea-going vessels, offshore structures, and shipyards, focusing on building, maintaining, and repairing ships, submarines, and rigs, using techniques like SMAW, FCAW on thick steel and aluminum, often in challenging environments like confined spaces or outdoors, requiring skills in blueprint reading, cutting, and specific AWS certifications. It's a high-demand field driven by naval needs, with training programs preparing welders for shipyard and offshore opportunities.
