The Guild held a members meeting on board the Gazela on June 15th. After a potluck and time for board members, volunteers and dues paying members to mix and mingle, our Guild President, Melissa Black-Simmons, led a wide ranging discussion on what has been happening at the Guild so far in 2019. Melissa noted that there is a lot of renewed enthusiasm at the Guild and announced the successful kick off a fundraising campaign to restore Gazela so that she can return to sailing the oceans. Board member Marcus Brandt reviewed an exciting parallel effort to obtain government funding to acquire a permanent home for the Guild on the Delaware River. Initial meetings with City and River officials have been positive. Board member John Telencio reviewed the Guild’s efforts for educational outreach to Philadelphia youth and our goal to expand outreach to local educators.
